Dr. Woollard has extensive national and international experience in the fields of medical education, ecosystem health and sustainable development. He chaired the Committee on the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools. He is heavily involved in the social accountability of medical schools, has chaired a major AFMC initiative on this topic and is currently actively involved in the development of a new national medical school, school of public health and nursing school founded on these principles in Nepal. He is also working in East Africa on social accountability, primary care and accreditation systems. He chaired the ACMC Task Force developing the response to the Health Canada white paperSocial Accountability: A Vision for Canadian Medical Schools. He co-chairs the Global Consensus on Social Accountability for Medical Schools (GCSA) and does extensive work in this area with AMEE, THEnet, the Network-TUFH and other bodies. He has chaired national and international initiatives in community of practice in ecosystem approaches to health and currently leads a process developing a global consensus on the ecohealth community’s responsibilities and commitments to addressing climate change—ratified at the Biennial Conference of the International Association for Ecology and Health. He is a member of the Social Accountability Working Group (SAWG) of the CFPC and member of the AFMC Group on Social Accountability. He also provides central leadership in the development of a national strategy for addressing educational and service needs for surgical services in rural Canada.
